This is going to be an exciting year of creating, critiquing, and celebrating writing together as a community. In writer's workshop this year, you will learn to navigate and own the writing process, identify what makes writing powerful in a variety of genres, make thoughtful and creative decisions about your work, give and receive feedback, and share your writing with each other. We will write narratives, opinion pieces, and argumentative essays.
I studied creative writing for my Bachelor's degree, and I personally love reading and writing fiction. I have been working in schools for eight years and have taught writing for the last four years. I got my teaching credential from Loyola Marymount University and my Master's in Eduction from UCLA. I teach writing because I believe that words are powerful and that the blank page is a space brimming with possibility. I love working with young writers because you have such creative and unique voices. I love helping you discover the power of your words and learn to use your voices to make the world a more loving and just place. After all, "a word, after a word, after a word is power" (Margaret Atwood).
Here's to a great year of making beautiful things and powerful change together!
