Grading System

Hi everyone,

Earlier in the week we sent home the blue folders with the students' work in them. For all the assessments on the right side of their folders, you should have seen a circled number. That is their grade. The grading system is as follows-
1- below grade level standards
2- working toward grade level standards
3- meeting grade level standards

3 is the highest a student can receive for now. Towards the end of the year, we may start to give 4s which indicate above grade level standards.

Math facts homework

Hello all!

Your students have a new homework assignment beginning today- practice math facts. The goal is for the students to commit their addition and subtraction math facts up to 10+10 and 20-10 to memory by the end of the year. You can use flashcards, ipad apps, or paper and pencil to help them practice. There is no designated amount of time that the students need to practice each night- it will vary by what your child needs. If you notice that they have their facts memorized already, then just a few minutes a night will help keep the facts fresh. If they are counting in their head or on their fingers to find the answer, 8-10 minutes a night will help them significantly! There is also an ST Math feature that will give them 10 minutes of math fact practice (the students should know how to access this feature).

Math Fact Cafe is a great site that I would recommend for finding worksheets to print out. The "basic facts" section has many options of worksheets to print. Math Fact Cafe also has an option for "flashcards". These are virtual flashcards where your child can practice typing in the correct response to basic addition and subtraction facts

Remember to sign your child's agenda book each night after they complete their homework activities.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Have a great evening!
