Good Afternoon 8th Grade and Parents
Welcome to the third week of class. I hope that all of you have been adjusting to the new schedules. I want to give you a preview of what we will be doing this week:
Last week, we discussed Church History from 100 AD through 500 AD. This week, we will continue to discuss this period, known as the Post Apostolic Age. We will discuss some of the Saints during this period and what it means to be a Witness. The lives, stories, and writings of the saints help us to understand Church history and by extension our own faith. We will go over the contributions of Sts. Augustine, Jerome, and Benedict as well as the story of St. Monica being the model of the theological virtues of faith, hope, and love. On Monday and Wednesday, I will post an assignment on each day. Please make sure you have at least 30 minutes of uninterrupted time before starting each assignment. If you are going to be late with the assignment, please let me know.
Please remember that we will be having a class meeting on zoom Friday @ 9:30 AM. This counts for weekly participation. I will be having the login information in Google Classrooms in the announcements section later tonight. See https://classroom.google.com/
If for some reason you cannot make this session or if you are having trouble with the homework, feel free to contact me so that I can make the necessary adjustments.
Yours in Christ,
Mr. Coulombe

Week 2
Good Afternoon,
Welcome to Week 2. During week 1, I wanted to keep it light to give you all a chance to get used to the new systems that we have in place. Some of you have asked me how I am going to grade the class, especially with the upcoming weeks. This is how I will be grading:
- 35% Assessments
- 35% Assignments (what was formerly classwork and homework)
- 10% Participation
- 20% Reflection Papers
Any assignments that I send out will be short answers or multiple choice questions that students will be expected to complete. They will be based on the videos that I post or discussions that we have each week.
I will be giving 3 participation points each week. The first point will be for watching videos that I post from time to time. These videos will be found on the webpage as well as the google classroom. The second point will be on our class discussions we will be having via zoom. I will be sending out more information on this, but basically these discussions will be on Fridays from 9:30-10. This is a chance for students to ask questions that they have during the week. If for some reason you cannot make this time period, then you should email me. The last participation point will be for a question or two that I send out every week. This will be like class discussion and students will have a chance to respond to me and to each other.
Finally those reflection papers. There will be four points each. In these papers I am searching more on what we are discussing and how this speaks to you. Sometimes I may assign a saint or a topic and I would like to see how this may apply to your life or how you can reflect upon this somehow. Don’t be concerned with getting the right answer per se, I am more interested in how you approach the topic.
I hope this works out. Again, if anyone is feeling overwhelmed, please let me know and I can make adjustments to our schedule. This is something that is new for all of us, so please be patient if something doesn’t work right. I will be immediately available to help any student between the hours of 10-12 on Monday and Friday and 9-11 on Tuesday. You can reach me anytime via Google Voice at (213) 787-7456 or email [email protected]

How to study at Home
Week 1
- Please watch the video on youtube if you have not done so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUQB_myCZ5o
- Please take the studying at home quiz: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1MCtuJKBbIXfjYMQXwIuXmO_MJtMZn-YvM5comyB92Ik/edit
- Write a reflection paper on the video. A question I would like to ask as that if we place God in the center of our lives, than how would it apply to working or studying at Home.
